  • Andrew Lackner has over 23 years of experience in venture capital, corporate innovation, and product management in energy, AI and IT, and communications. He has a proven track record in evaluating and managing seed and early-stage venture capital investments, successfully supporting startup commercialization with more than 15 positive exits. Andrew is the founding partner of the EIC Rose Rock Seed VC fund and Rose Rock Bridge incubator program. He has closed over 100 venture capital financings in sectors including energy, climate tech, AI, IoT, and enterprise IT.

    Previously, Andrew worked with the innovation practice of Accenture to develop innovation accelerator, VC, and venture studio programs. Andrew worked for GE for 9 years where he developed four award-wining energy and industrial technology VC programs resulting in the investment in over 50 startups. This included GE Energy Financial Services VC team, a $300M fund Energy Technology Ventures, the $100M Ecomagination Innovation Challenge, and GE Ventures. Andrew was also a product manager for an analytics and AI company MicroStrategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) and an associate at Columbia Capital, an enterprise IT and communications VC fund with $5B in AUM. Andrew has a M.E.M., B.E. Mechanical Engineering, and B.A in Engineering Sciences from Dartmouth College.


  • Steve Taub brings extensive experience in venture capital, having invested in nearly three dozen startups across energy and climate, industrial technology, robotics, aerospace, and other markets during his tenure at GE Ventures, In-Q-Tel, and JetBlue Ventures. Prior to his venture capital career, Steve served as Senior Vice President at GE Energy Financial Services, where he screened and helped underwrite over $6 billion in clean energy project finance investments. His expertise in energy was further honed at Cambridge Energy Research Associates (now S&P Global), where he was part of the electric power research team and launched the firm’s first research services focused on technology for the electric power industry.

    Earlier in his career, Steve worked at the U.S. Department of Energy and gained engineering experience at Northrop Grumman. He holds Master’s degrees in Technology and Policy and Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University.


  • Kevin Skillern is Managing Partner and co-founder of Energy Innovation Capital. Kevin overviews EIC’s investment activities and organizational growth. Kevin is active across EIC’s portfolio and currently serves as a board director at Ocean Aero and Moleaer. Kevin is a leader in energy technology investing; his 30-year career has focused on investing and strategy development in the global energy industry. Prior to founding EIC, he led GE’s venture and growth capital investing program in technology companies in the energy industry from 2005 through 2013. Kevin also launched and led a joint $300 million fund with ConocoPhillips and NRG Energy. Kevin’s earlier career focused on the O&G sector, including key roles in 15 private equity and debt investments at GE and 9 years as a strategy consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. Kevin has an MBA from Stanford University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with Highest Honors from the University of Texas at Austin.


  • Yucen Xie is a Senior Principal at EIC, with over a decade of experience spanning technology, venture capital, energy and strategy. Yucen invests in venture-stage energy and technology companies, leading and supporting over 20 transactions totaling more than $40M direct investment and is on the Board of Safety Radar, Streamline (observer), Moleaer (observer), Kelvin (observer), and formerly RedEye (acquired by Fortive). Prior to EIC, Yucen was Project Leader at Boston Consulting Group, where he led and executed projects across private equity, energy, and digital strategy; Research Fellow at Amgen, where he designed and operationalized patented machine learning algorithms; and Project Engineer at Aera Energy (Shell and ExxonMobil JV), where he led teams of engineers and operators to safety design, construct and commission capital projects. Yucen holds an MBA and MS Chemical Engineering from MIT and graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a BS in Chemical Engineering. In Yucen’s free time, he enjoys backpacking, astronomy, basketball, and chess.
